[lug] EOF from time server

I am using rdate to sync machines on an internal network off the same
machine.  About once a week or so, I get messages from CRON saying: 
rdate: got EOF from time server.  If I restart inetd on the time server,
everything is happy again.  Any ideas as to what is causing this and how
I can stop it. (I must admit that having 42 messages in your inbox makes
you feel popular for a moment, until you see that your admirer is the
Cron daemon).
