I don't get paid for this, but there's a new book in stores called
"Vi IMproved - Vim" by Steve Oualline, New Riders, ISBN 0-7357-1001-5
that's pretty good. (I don't quite understand its organization, but
it's browseable, which the vim docs really aren't, and like the vim
docs, there's a *ton* of information.)

My "aha" was from reading about the formatoptions setting.
