My favorite way is to wait until the BIOS is done, then hold down Alt 
and hammer on the L key.  You should see LILO say ***Interrupted, and 
the prompt appear.  You'll have to type fast, because if you pause more 
than 1/10th of a second (I think), it'll continue to boot the default.
