Add to /etc/pcmcia/hostap_cs.conf

    # dlink hubs uses "default" by default for your essid
    module "hostap_cs" opts "essid=YOUR-ESSID"

I didn't actually rebuild the kernel, btw, just did the install in
/usr/src/hostap-2002-10-12.  I didn't have to modify anything other
than the above (if I remember correctly and my file dates agree :-).
