I tried backing out to GNOME 1.4 (built by me and installed under
/usr/local/gnome-1.4) but it wouldn't come up. I tried putting the
fully qualified path to the 1.4 gnome-session in my .Xsession, .Xclients
and .xinitrc but it kept getting stuck after it tried to launch the
screensaver. Note that my previous 1.4 installation was Ximian's, not
RH's or stock GNOME. So that probably isn't helping matters.
Ximian's latest GNOME 2.x package failed to install (dependency problems
with the Spamassasin packages first, then an error with no description)
and ended up trashing my complete X environment. So I reinstalled and
will skip Ximian (which I actually liked better than stock GNOME 1.4)
for now.

I tried KDE but I'm not comfortable with it. Too many differences from
what I like my desktop to work like, plus the look and feel is not quite
what I want. But I have all the KDE stuff installed. I use Qt stuff a
fair amount, most notably MythTV.
