[lug] Printing woes

Debian testing / hp psc 750xi / usb

		I can't get this thing to work - but it seems very close to
being correct.

		I'm running cups, and the printer appears to be configured
correctly - at least I get the following in cups:

Device URI: usb://HP/PSC%20700%20Series?serial=MY2AAD423MWB

This tells me that it sees the printer out there.


		So, I try to print a test page (from localhost:631) or by
using lp. I can see the print job go into the queue, but the printer
itself does nothing. After a short amount of time the job moves into
the 'finished' area - cups seems to think the job has printed.

		The only odd indication is that I'm getting a "Media tray
empty!"  message, but googling makes this seem like it's a common, but
bogus, error - that is, for everyone else the job still prints.

		Here's the tail of my cups/error_log when I tried the last
test page:

		In a related (perhaps) note, xsane doesn't seem to see the
scanner either - although it latches on to my video card. I only
mention this in case it rings a bell with someone - I'm not averse to
splitting this issue off into a separate thread if that seems like the
right thing to do.

		Thanks for any pointers or other type of assistance. Aside
from being able to print the occasional thing, it'll be nice to not
have my wife asking why we bought this printer if we can't use it -
which sucks, because I actually looked it up before purchasing it to
make sure it worked with Linux.
