[lug] programs that start on login

I am running RH9.  I used the OpenOffice word processor once, and since
then it opens every time I boot the machine and log in.  It doesn't take a
lot of time to start, and it is not a lot of trouble to shut it down, but
I would like to know how to stop it from happening.  The same happened
under 8.0 with XCDroast.  I have looked in the places that seem obvious to
me, including at least the index of the printed manuals that came in the
box.  From the main menu: [Preferences, more Preferences, Session] doesn't
offer any options.  The Startup Program list is empty.
