[lug] Experience with open source POS systems?

Does anyone out there have experience with any of the many open source
point-of-sale systems?   The Uptime Group has a client who is asking us to
look into this for them, but we're not sure of which direction to move in?
Right now they are just asking questions, but if the project goes through,
we would also probably be interested in hiring a subcontractor who already
has experience to implement it.
