You should buy all you can get of them then, because the raw CPU for that
class of machine is just a hair under a thousand dollars. In particular,
the original poster was talking bout basically a top of the line desktop
box, Core 2 3GHz-ish would be "Core 2 Extreme X6800 Conroe 2.93GHz".
Newegg lists this at $968.
Unless the original poster is thing 3GHz in the old-style GHz... The
equivalent of a 3GHz P4/P-D would be one of the lowest end Core 2 Duo
CPUs, $117 to $139 for a 1.7 to 2GHz CPU. That's probably more realistic
to find available for rental.
