Apparently not if you want to use Nautilus or bluetooth from the
desktop:

Removing:
 gvfs                    
Removing for dependencies:
 bluez-gnome             
 bluez-utils
 gnome-bluetooth
 gvfs-fuse
 nautilus 

Since I use neither I *could* remove it, I think.  But I discovered
using XFce is pretty easy at work.  gvfs is an annoyance when it comes
to my backups, but things still work.  If I hit the metacity bug at home
I'll switch to XFce there too.
