This all came about because I stuffed the drive from my old desktop
into a new desktop, with the thought that I would be able to just
access my old data from the old drive. In hindsight, it would have
been quite simple to just transfer my old home directory to the new
box using tar and netcat. Oops.

That's an idea. At this point, I really don't have much to lose. ;)

When I booted into FC9, for whatever reason it listed both drives as
VolGroup00, but it only actually gave me access (that I could find) to
the files on the new drive. So the old drive (FC5) was theoretically
part of VolGroup00 but with no Logical Volumes.

Are you saying FC5 didn't actually have lvm? The biggest lesson
learned here is to listen to the little voice in your head saying
you're not in the right mindset to deal with a particular issue so you
should just stop and revisit the topic the next day, rather than
listen to your cow-orker giving questionable advice. :-D

Thanks,
