Turns out to be a permissions issue, I believe. When I tried to check
out locally (on the cvs server) I got a "lockfile failure". The
directory is owned by the non-existent user and I was able to check out
once I "newgrp"'d to the proper group.
Now to sort out why the ant task doesn't work properly, but that's a
different problem.
Thanks for the suggestions, it got me going on the right track.
