Before looking at all this, I have to ask: why not just use
NetworkManager?
If you hate it because it was horrible back in the f7 days, please
consider giving it a try again. It's soooo much better than it used to
be. It works fine here for wired, wireless and evdo.
I have even packaged a command line app called 'cnetworkmanager' if you
want to control it from the command line. ;)
