Have you looked at the various Tablet PC style machines?  Lenovo (not 
really IBM anymore) makes one, as do most...

Looking at your A-frame setup there, a thin tablet with a touch-screen 
with your external keyboard and trackball setup would be cool... to me, 
anyway.

It wouldn't be so tall... would just be like it was a monitor above your 
keyboard, but having the touch screen for something "quick" to poke at 
something, would be cool.
