[lug] Problematic Debian server

 There is a gateway server running Debian.

It won't boot to multiuser mode.

I'm a FC person - never used Debian - and I know in the past (for myself and others), sometimes differences between distros have been frustrating.

I'm going to the remote site soon to check things out.

Any thoughts on what to look at first?
