So, having /proc/bus/usb empty might be a bug (or at least an
incompatibility), which is easily fixed:

I couldn't find any additional information on this issue though (when
and why it happened, etc).
Unfortunately that fix didn't help my problem (I'm opening a separate
thread, because I don't think anymore it's a USB issue).
