[lug] Scanner issue (Visioneer Strobe XP 100)

I'm trying to get this scanner working.

It should, according to the sane website:
http://www.sane-project.org/sane-mfgs.html#Z-VISIONEER if I have the
plustek backend installed, which I have, but maybe this information is
incorrect. In fact (see below), it looks like this vendor is not in
the list of the ones the backend actually expects. And if I force it
on the conf file, it doesn't work. Any help would be greatly
appreciated (including suggestion to post on the appropriate sane
mailing list).
Thanks,
Dav

Here is what I get (I removed the non-scanner relevant info and
shortened the output, hope it doesn't wrap too badly):

$ lsusb
Bus 005 Device 008: ID 04a7:0427 Visioneer

$ sane-find-scanner
found USB scanner (vendor=0x04a7 [Visioneer Inc.], product=0x0427
[Strobe XP 100], chip=LM9832/3) at libusb:005:008

$ scanimage -L # I get exactly same result with sudo scanimage -L
No scanners were identified. If you were expecting something different,
check that the scanner is plugged in, turned on and detected by the
sane-find-scanner tool (if appropriate). Please read the documentation
which came with this software (README, FAQ, manpages).

$ sudo SANE_DEBUG_PLUSTEK=127  ./scanimage -L 2> debug.log
