Any Ubuntu /vsftpd experts out there?
My VSFTPD server is causing real problems recently. The server has been
running for many years now, but this problem started about two weeks ago. I
suspect recent updates, but can't be sure and don't know how to roll it
back.
Trying to restart it:
$> service vsftpd status
vsftpd stop/waiting
$> service vsftpd stop
Stop: Unknown instance:
$> service vsftpd start
vsftpd start/pre-start, process 1485
$> service vsftpd status
Vsftpd stop/waiting
$> service vsftpd restart
stop: Unknown instance:
vsftpd start/pre-start, process 1559
$> service vsftpd status
Vsftpd stop/waiting
NOTHING SEEMS TO RESTART IT. And, of course, with Ubuntu 12's new UPSTART,
trying to restart with init.d doesn't work either.

fast, stopped
Ubuntu 12.04 in a Virtual Machine with 2 gb of ram.
I can't find anything in the forums that helps.
