funny you should ask, as alan cox just responded to essentially the
same question on linux-kernel.

they are supported just fine, although apparently some 2.2.x kernels
had bugs against it.  standard 2.2.{13,14} should be fine.  and there
are some optimizations in the 2.3.20+ versions, but 2.3.29 (?) has
been, ah, rocky.

so yes, it's fully supported.  it may not be fully optimized, but it
is supported.
