Systems redeployed for use as network servers are frequently surplus
machines which are not worth enough to be worth selling, but too old for
use as a (Windows) desktop.

It takes me about an hour or so to install Red Hat and disable all the
unnecessary services (really everything except ssh).   I bill about
$200/hour, so that's not too bad.
