[lug] wireless lan problems

HI,
I got a D-LINK DWL-650 wireless lan card based on the reports that it works
and seem to be experiencing some trouble. The instructions on how to set
this card up can be found here:
http://mobilix.org/pcmcia_ci10092.html

What they say is:
1. Add some information to /etc/pcmcia/conf: card "D-Link DWL-650" manfid
0x0156, 0x0002 bind "wvlan_cs"
2. Run 'netconf' (the network configuration part of linuxconf) and under
Basic Host information add an adaptor left otherwise blank but with
'wvlan0' filled in as the interface name.[GNP]
-> I am assuming what they say in step 2 is to add a net device wvlan0 as
adapter 2. When I do this none of the changes stick.

So at this point I am stuck. My searches haven't brought up any good
solutions to this problem. Basically the system doesn't load the wavelan
module when I insert the card. Here is what I see in my syslog:
Feb 8 11:49:04 fps cardmgr[538]: initializing socket 0
Feb 8 11:49:04 fps cardmgr[538]: unsupported card in socket 0
Feb 8 11:49:04 fps kernel: cs: memory probe 0xa0000000-0xa0ffffff: clean.
Feb 8 11:49:05 fps cardmgr[538]: product info: "D", "Link DWL-650 11Mbps
WLAN Card", "Version 01.02", ""
Feb 8 11:49:05 fps cardmgr[538]: manfid: 0x0156, 0x0002 function: 6
(network)

Any hints or suggestions are appreciated. By the way - D-LINK caims Linux
is supported - but that is the only Linux statement on their site. For
other cards they in fact have Linux drivers.
